What does SGF Certified mean?

Being SGF Certified, you will be part of a new generation of golf educators who have a much greater influence on junior boys and girls regarding their development as young men and women. Aside from the technical knowledge gained for organizing and the administration of a better golf program, you will be on par with other coaches and educators in the other major sports in your school or organization. You will also have the opportunity for personal development as a player and, most importantly, as a mentor to those boys and girls and their families. SGF truly believes that there are people who play golf and there are golfers. The obvious difference is that "golfers" have an introduction, knowledge and experience with the game that instills far more than just how to swing the club. SGF will give you more recognition by your community as a certified golf coach, not just the person who drives the van.

How do I become certified?

Active SGF Scholastic Coach and Golf Educator Members can achieve certification through our "Experience vs. Study" Program. SGF has developed this program to help each member assess his or her level of expertise and choose educational modules which further their professional and personal development.

How does my school or facility benefit by me being SGF Certified?

Having a structured, formatted curriculum for golf creates a learning atmosphere much higher than past golf classes. The job of the coach/PE teacher or counselor is significantly reduced due to the turn-key training aids offered to SGF members. Boys and girls are introduced to the game with the values of the game prioritized and the skill development portion of the game structured and user-friendly.

Student participation is enhanced due to a buddy system format and the game-like atmosphere which promotes the fun associated with successful participation.

Can I join SGF and not become certified?

Yes. As a member of SGF, you will be afforded the opportunity to attend coaching seminars, clinics, local, state and regional golf events at SGF member discounted prices.

You will also receive the SGF online newsletter, discounts on golf products, apparel, publications and other membership benefits as they become available. SGF is the only non-profit foundation dedicated to the advancement of those mentors around the world who are impacting the lives of millions of boys and girls. Being a coach member of SGF, even if not a certified coach, will add significantly to your position and to your relationship with your school or, if a counselor, to your organization.

How does SGF grow?
Through a local chapter system. As interest and participation in each area increases, a Chapter Program will be developed.
